With Open Access Week (October 22-28) around the corner, there’s plenty of events taking place across the country. With moves towards open access to scholarly publishing taking place in the UK, the EU, USA and Australia, it seems like a good time to start thinking about what open access will look like closer to home.
To this end, Creative Commons Aotearoa New Zealand is hosting a series of posts on the theme of Open Access. Featuring contributions from academics, publishers and librarians, Open Access in Aotearoa will discuss the future of free and open access to New Zealand’s publicly funded scholarly research.
Several New Zealand universities are also hosting their own Open Access activities.
- Waikato University are hosting a series of activities, including panel sessions, workshops, coffee courses and speed seminars. Their website also provides great background to the movement for open access.
- On October 26, the University of Auckland are hosting a half day of activities on open access, including a panel discussion and a presentation on open access for beginners.
- Stratus, at the University of Auckland, are hosting a session on open access for emerging researchers on October 25.
- Lincoln University Library is also publishing an OA Week series of posts, on academic research, journals and Creative Commons.
There’s plenty to do! If there’s anything else happening in your area, let me know, and I’ll add it to the list.
