Creative Commons news

Our book A Quiet Revolution: Growing Creative Commons in Aotearoa New Zealand is just about to go to print! Thanks again so much to everyone who supported our crowdfunding campaign. We have a new intern working with us, VUW law student Alec Duncan. Welcome, Alec!

Latest from NZCommons

Over the past month on NZCommons we’ve had Kiwi artist William McKee and Kiwi writer Ann Calhoun discuss their use of CC, an examination of GIF IT UP in the context of Open GLAM, and our intern Alec Duncan on copyright for NZ schools. Have a read and let us know what you think.

Upcoming events

New CC resources for Kiwi teachers

We’ve just published a new handbook and a new video for Kiwi teachers about copyright and Creative Commons in NZ schools. We’re happy to come visit schools to talk it through; just let us know.

Open Educational Resources sprints

In the first half of 2016, we’re helping organise, with partners and volunteers from across New Zealand, Open Educational Resource (OER) Sprints. These will bring together teachers, librarians, academics, technologists, editors – and maybe even a few lawyers – for a day or weekend to collaboratively produce free OERs. If you want to help organise the events (or if you’re just feeling nosy), you can join our Loomio group. We’ll be making all the decisions about the events there, in the open.

National Library images on Flickr

The National Library of NZ is making excellent progress making its digital image collections part of the Commons. Browse thousands of newly uploaded high-res images on Flickr.
