‘The Glass Room: Misinformation Edition’ – Exhibition & Daily Talk

10 December 2020 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

The globally successful exhibition The Glass Room: Misinformation Edition that explores how social media and the Internet have changed the way we interact with information online will be on public display in Auckland’s CBD next week (7th to 10th December) at St Matthew-in-the-City.

The exhibition is developed by Tactical Tech, an international NGO that “engages with citizens and civil-society organisations to explore and mitigate the impacts of technology on society” and is currently touring New Zealand schools and libraries with support from Tohatoha and InternetNZ.

Consisting of display boards, interactive apps and animations, the exhibit the exhibit tackles questions like: ‘How do we know if a picture, tweet or video is genuine or truthful? And what can we do if we can’t be sure?’. It will be stationed on the western wall of St Matthew-in-the-City, the well-known historic building and progressive Anglican church on Nelson Street in Auckland’s central business district.

Tohatoha’s CEO, Mandy Henk will be on-site at the exhibition from 11.00am to 1.00pm daily, and present a short talk and mini-workshop at 12 noon on each day (Monday to Thursday), which the general public is welcome to attend.

Today’s daily talk topic is “Disinformation, Climate Change, and COVID-19” (Understanding how we know what we think we know. What the science of climate communication tells us about motivated reasoning.)
